Default Fiberglass bumper question

If I change my no-longer any good original urethane front bumper to a fiberglass or tru-flex one, do I need to save/reuse all those heavy reinforcement pieces from underneath? I'm talking about the full-width upper black rubber one, the middle metal/rubber one, and the two outer rubber bump-stop type of things. The car is a 79.

TIA,

-steve

when i put a fiberglass bumper on my 75 i took those pieces off because they didn't fit underneath it. but you need to remember that without those you only have an empty shell for a bumper(not a bumper anymore). none of that stuff is required for a fiberglass bumper, it was used to keep the urethane in shape. if you decide to put it back for more protection, make sure none of it is putting pressure on the bumper because over time the fiberglass can distort to that shape.

I threw all of that stuff out on my 69 vert. I will take my chances if I ever have a wreck in that car. But I figure that the performance gains will outweigh the risk of an accident. I am a very careful driver on the street. And I drive the 69 vert only about two thousand miles a year on the street. However, my 82 daily driver has all the stuff still on it.

Thanks, that's what I was hoping, especially since that stuff is so heavy, and in my case it's not in very good shape (rubber is crumbly and the metal center piece is ugly and rusted)

I guess I can live with that, I drive carefully as well, plus I have tons of insurance

Npw I have to figure out where to get a new one, anyone have any experience with the ones on eBay that seem to be 100 bucks cheaper than the catalogs?
