Default Two Temperature Senders?

I just finished replacing the temperature sending unit in the thermostat housing and while I was in there I noticed what looks to be another temperature sender in the intake. I have looked all through the factory manual and online but can't find a reference to it. Anyone know what it's for? Mine is a '70 BB.

Thanks in advance.

I also have a '70 Big Block. It doesn't have anything like that on it. Where abouts on the intake is this thing located?

It's right beside the other one. Here's a picture:

FWIW: I'm not sure about your car (bone stock?), but whenever I've seen something like that in the past, one sender is for the guage and the other is for an electric fan or a pollution control device...

I also have a 70 BB. It's thermostat housing doesn't have any sensors.

I agree with SkunkApe in that it's probably for an electric fan or maybe an aftermarket set of guages. I doubt if it's for polution since it's not stock and I don't think anyone would add polution equipment.

Follow the wire and let us know where it goes.

The sending units on a '70 Corvette are in the heads. One in each. The thermostat housing is not from a '70 Corvette and of course neither is the intake manifold. The thermostat housing could be from a '73/'74 Corvette or a '73/'74 Impala/Caprice or a '73/'74/'75 Chevelle or a late '70's truck and the manifold is obviously from Edelbrock.

Oh man, it's not the original thermostat housing? I didn't know that. The engine was built a few years back and obviously has an Edelbrock intake. I did not realize the thermostat housing had been changed also. I need to look around to see if I can find where the sensor is supposed to be. Thanks for that info.

On the second sensor, the car has the original radiator (except I just had a new core put in it), fan shroud, fan, etc. I doubt it has ever had electric fans on it although I wish they were there. I tried following the wire but it went into a harness. I'll have to spend more time tracing it.

Thanks guys!

where is the wire for the temp sender in the t-stat housing going? is it also going into the harness or somewhere else? my temp sender on my 76 350 is in the driver side head and the wire is coming from the harness on the driverside. not sure if that helps.
