Default Side Exhaust vs True Duals

I'm trying to decide what I should do for exhaust. I've already got the Hooker side exhaust system, but I'm seriously thinking about getting true duals. So, my question is - What setup would give me more power? Hooker side exhaust with spiral turbo baffles or true duals with headers? Thanks

I went with Hooker super comp. headers from Jet Hot. Then I ran true dual two and a half exaust with an H pipe. I have flow master mufflers.

In the research I've done, either setup can be configured to give you maximum power (with no backpressure) by carefully selecting the correct parts.

I had the sidepipes too and did not want to cut my car and also thought the sidepipes with my motor would be too loud so I went with a 3in. exhaust...that ended up being too loud anyway

I was in the same spot as you. I ran a bunch of numbers through my Performance Trends program and the 3' duals always seemed to have a slight torque advantage in the lower RPM range. However, it was not significant enough to warrent concern. I ended up with the duals, but only because my car has been lowered and I was concerned about clearance. If that was not the case, I would have gone with the side pipes. They just look so darn good! As far as sound is concern, they are both too loud, which is just the way I like it.

I just put a set of Hooker Headers Side Exhaust on my car with the STS turbo baffles. They sound great and I can still listen to my music in the car. You need to watch your legs getting in and out though. I like the looks of the side exhaust better than the true duals. It really comes down to personal preference. As for ground clearance I think the car still has more than enough. I haven't had them hit yet.

We are entering the "How can I cool this pup" season. The standard exhaust runs DIRECTLY under the seats . I have always had sidepipes on my '71 . I live in the NE ; the car has no A/C ; it's vert but I'm not doing the complaining about the HEAT. I vote sidepipes only for heat disappation.
