Just rebuilt my 454 for my 71 corvette going to use factory big block hood anyone know if a good two plane intake will clear hood? Going to use factory air cleaner and Jet performance stage-2 Quadrajet, was thinking of a edelbrock perfomer or something similiar..
Edelbrock doesn't make a dual plane manifold that will fit under the stock hood. What you need is a manifold off of a '69 L-36 390 hp 427. These are an aluminum version of your stock manifold. This is what I'm putting on my '70 LS-5.
The only after market one I found to fit was a single plane Edelbrock Torker II. I have a Holley carb and a 3 " open element filter and it clears the stock BB hood.
Not many options. The factory alum one already mentioned is likely your best option if you do not want to make other changes to your engine. There are no other dual planes that will fit. To run the stock hood, I had to switch heads to run a dual plane on mine (LS6 intake). Some guys have been able to use a Holley Strip Dominator, but that is single plane.
The Torker II will fit, and makes decent midrange power. I could just never get rid of an off idle miss with that intake.
I too have a 71 LS-5. I ended up getting a 69 Alum intake on ebay for ~ $385!
What cam did you go with? What about headers? I am thinking of having my exhaust manifolds ported by gessler, then coated. I want torque/power with "stock" looks.
I went with a hydrauic roller cam from compettion cams (total lift 550 i think) going to use stock exhaust manifolds and have them ceramic coated trying to keep it as stock as possible on the outside. Hvae heard great things about Jet performance Stage 2 quadrajet
I think I'll go with a new Voodoo cam, ported exhaust and intake with ported stock LS-5 heads. I'll coat them all. Oh and I want a 4.250" crank to give me 489 CID with a 0.030" overbore. Torque. I'll stick with my Q-jet by Lars.
