So I thought it'd be a cake walk to get BTO to send me their kit and get everything running, but they only make kits for Edelbrock q-jets, not Rochester. That leaves me with trying to fit a universal kit or custom build. I only have a limited time before I have to get the car running, so time is an issue. What have you guys done? Pictures would be very helpful.

As far as I know the Edelbrock is just a rebuilt Q-Jet. They should have the same linkage.
On their web page I see plenty of listings for Q-Jets. Just look at the install instructions for each model (1901 - 1910) and see which one has the same linkage as yours.

I placed the order over the phone and they said that the linkage is different and won't work. I'll try to compare pictures tonight. If they are different, is it possible to get Edelbrock's linkage and just bolt that to my Rochester?
Eh? I had a Edelbrock 1903 Qjet when I installed my 200-4R. Installed theTV Made EZ kit out of necessity. Then I went back to my original '79 Rochester Qjet. The weird thing is I found I needed the TV Made EZ kit on the Edelbrock, but not on the Rochester. For some really mysterious reason (the carbs are essentially the same), the travel for the TV cable linkage is different on the Edelbrock vs the Rochester (43 vs 37mm travel -- crude measurement). For the life of me, I don't know why.
But the bottom line is that you may be able to make a "universal" GM TV cable work, assuming you originally had a TH350.
I know none of this makes sense, but I've been there and done that!
Hmm, interesting. I think I may have been given incorrect information. I went out today and looked at my carb and it looks exactly like Edelbrock's 1903, which seems to me that I could use the kit from BTO. There does seem to be a cam where it looks like something was or could be, possibly the TH350 linkage? I have a TH400 so it wouldn't work for me anyway. The kit is only $20 more than the universal link, so I think it's worth it to get BTO to support setup.
Go ahead and get the Edelbrock 1903 kit. As you say, it can't hurt. I still use the baseplate bracket, but I no longer use the adjustable doohickey that goes on the throttle arm linkage -- I just use the stock linkage stud.
No issues there. But I did have the "original" design doohickey that goes on the throttle arm. It interfered by hitting the carb and prevented the carb from opening fully. Doh!
