I asked about the location and the cylinder head does not seem like the best location. To much heat early and the headers keep it quite hot. Tom from Dewits even does not like it. My real question is what switch to get. I have a 185 on and 160 off. My thermostat is a 180. This would keep the fan running almost all the time. Even a 195/170 would be running quite a bit. Do I change to a 160 thermostat and/or a 195/170 switch. My car ran quite cool with the stock fan and shroud and 180 thermostat. I'd like to keep it running cool with the fans but not run them all the time.
I have the 195 that the Dewitt spal came with and I'd like it to come on sooner. If I'm sitting in traffic and watching the temp gauge climb, I begin to wonder when it's going to kick on. It always does, but I'd like to eliminate having the thought. I'm thinking of wiring a toggle.
Once it kicks on, the temp falls a lot and quickly. It's amazing how much that single fan pulls.
My temp sender is on the passenger side between headers, and I don't see that as an issue. If anything, the 195 comes on too late.

I'm using a 180 t-stat with the sender mounted in the intake manifold. I found the headers, if sender mounted in the head, influenced the sender. It's a Painless sender on at 205 and off at 185. Be sure to get a Robert Shaw type t-stat which is much more accurate.

I do have this type of T stat and it does work much better than the stock type. I have been looking for a sender with about the rating you have. If it shuts off at 160 it will never shut off if I have a 180 t stat. I thought it should come on at about 200 and off at 180 would be the correct sender to use. I'll keep looking.
