I recently put a post on here about my oil pressure being low and hearing a strange noise. A few months ago, my oil pump went out and was hollering when at a stop light because there was no oil pressure. I got a new "heavy duty" one basically meaning a metal piece at the bottom of the shaft rather than the plastic piece and got my motor man to put that on. Now the same thing is happening again. No oil pressure at stop light...making hollering sound. Talked to my motor man who said that was most likely what it was. I had my engine rebuilt last summer because my oil pressure line broke and all the oil ran out which broke 3 rods and the crank. He said the block might be bad after eating up 2 oil pumps in about 5 months. Maybe when I did all that damage, it screwed EVERYTHING up. Any ideas?
I cannot give you any advise on what is causing the pump to go bad. But, your story has convinced me to hook up a 'shift light' that triggers with either low oil pressure or high water temp. Been thinking about it...going to proceed. If I was in your shoes, I would at least have the engine pulled apart for inspection.
shaft between the oil pump and tang on the distributor gear. If there is not enough clearanced it could wear out the oil pump preamturely. If the clearance is excessive the oil pump shaft may not be engaging in the distributor tang and therefore not turning the pump.
Based on the noise you are hearing, I think it would be not enough clearance which is causing the pump to fail.
He's picking it up on a trailer at the end of the week. Back to the shop again. Hopefully we can figure it out. I really hope it's not the block, but then again if it is...the possibilities are unlimited as long as the budget holds up.

We'll take a look at that. I knew that the distributor and oil pump were related in how they worked, I just wasn't too sure on if that could cause the problem. Thanks for the help.
