ok I know there will be many opinions on this but maybe I can learn from someone who has done it before. here is my setup:
1981 stock block and pistons
camel hump 64cc heads
flow tech long tube headers
performer manifold
650 cfm carb/ msd ignition
2500 stall convertor 350 trans/ stock rear end
I want a muscle car idle, street use only, nitrous cheater system (used sparingly) I was thinking duration around 280, will I have to change the valve springs? thanks
How about the magnum 280 from comp cams? Very traditional (symmetric) rough idle but bearable (e.g. enough vacuum for power brakes and accessories). I think lift is almost .5".

i'm running an XE268H from comp cams and have a similar set up to yours absent the nitrous...i like it, if you want more info go to the comp cams website there are lots of magazine articles on this cam.....i was impressed by the writeups just be aware of magazine biases when you review the articles....there are those among us who i won't name, but his initials are DJ DEP who make a case for collusion between advertiser and editor....i'm sure there is an incentive not to bash the advertisers but i'm not sure all reviews are hog wash either..just be aware there are often other motives/factors in writing reviews.. (that disclaimer is for my contrarian aquaintence)
To the poster - You really need to figure out your exact C/R. When you go from 76cc to 64 is a big change in compression. If you don't have your ducks in a row, detonation is what you end up with when you use an incorrect cam
I went for 64 cc flat tops on a iron headed 355 and had 10.74 c/r. ping with 93 super unleaded at sea level. I always used 104 octane booster. I worked on the timing curve........ and after a year or so gave up and installed a bigger duration cam
I agree with "bobs77vette" on the XE-cams. I've built three engines using this line and they are very streetable and make a bit more bottom end power than comparable cams. The second of which I think was in the neighborhood of 290* duration .510 lift and rather aggresive (but I had fully ported heads and 11:1 compression), lights and brakes worked just fine. That just a suggestion and my opinion, but you know what opinions are like
