look for weights or orientation marks with the drive shaft and the tranny yoke.....could be paint marks...could be stamped....could be a welded tag....it needs to be balanced so it does have a proper orientation with the tranny yoke...

There are 2 external pads that look like they may be weights. Are you saying that this should be oriented toward the tranny yoke?

Default driveshaft blues

this probably won't help, but the manual driveshaft i'm getting ready to put in my 1981 (w/the Muncie), and the automatic driveshaft that is currently residing in the car; both have a silver colored sticker that originally had some kind of ID number. On both, the silver stripe is on the Transmission end.
On the 80, (the junk car the manual driveshaft came from)there are two different sizes of U joints with the largest being on the trans end.
good luck, jim

not necessarily, they sound like weights.... the drive shaft and yoke always get balanced together so the orientation must remain the same...do you see any stampings that are the same on the tranny and yoke, or perhaps a paint mark? they probably marked them look really good for similar signs on both the yoke and driveshaft

Slap it back in. If you notice vibration, switch it. Nothing truly bad is going to happen if you guess wrong, just another opportunity to wrench on the vette.
