Ok
I am getting ready to drop a 350/290 GM crate engine into my 78.
I have an Edelbrock Performer manifold and intend to use my quadrajet.
The question I have is about the choke.
I see that Edelbrock sells a divorced choke rod #9171.
Will this work with the choke stove that came with the performer manifold?
or.....
Should I consider converting to an electric choke?
Personally I prefer a divorced choke. The advantage is that it actuates the choke according to actual engine temperature. An electric choke closes the choke any time you start the car whether the engine is hot or cold. You can fabricate your own custom choke rod from 1/8" welding rod; I just made one for my Vette.
Thanks Kid Vette
Edelbrock wants 9.00 plus for thier prefabbed rod.
My theory is similar to yours insofar as I can make it as good and cheaper.
Good point about the Choke being driven by actual engine temp.
The electric choke could make for some less than graceful starts in warm weather.

Sounds very "Bubba" but you should check out the metal rod attached to the bottom of some plastic coat hangers with the two sliding pants clips. We used one to fabricate a rod for a friend's car and it was the same gauge as the OEM (and broken) choke rod. A couple of needle nose pliers and some tweaking and he had himself a "new" choke rod. His wife had one less coat hanger.
