As I continue "getting ready" to swap my automatic out of the 81 vette to replace w/a Muncie 4speed, I've came across this problem. I think I know the answer but...
The Manual driveshaft is about 1/8 to 1/4" longer than the Automatic driveshaft. The Muncie w/bellhousing is 3/4" longer than the Automatic THC 350. The currently installed automatic has about 1 1/2" to 2" of play in the yoke that slides in and out of the trans.rear. I'm hoping to have the same amount of play in the manual set-up.
I believe my measurements are "close" if not exact.
How much do I cut out of my Manual driveshaft that I had balanced & new Spicers installed 2 days ago?
Anyone thats made this swap in a 1981 should know...unless they had someone else to do the work.
My guess is 1", whats yours? thanks in advance, jim
I'm in process of doing an auto to 4 spped swap in my 80. The 4 spd set up came out of a 79 with a super t-10. the 4spd shaft is way to long. I'm using the auto shaft with a combo u joint at the trans yoke.
"using the auto shaft with a combo u joint at the trans yoke."
The manual Driveshaft I have has a larger Ujoint on the transmission end which the Automatic doesn't. Whats a combo U joint? the c-clips or girdles? just curious about possible options. good luck & thanks, jim
Prosouth: whats the overall length and diameter of that shaft?
