I had my tranny rebuild abut 200 km's ago, and cleaned and painted the shifter linkage. Third gear is a little difficult to find sometimes, when I am trying my 0-60 times.
A little bit of a help is the adjustment shim. This fits into the shifter when it's in neutral. There's a little slot in the shifter mechanism for it to fit into. Corvette Central's price is $1.95 and Zip wants $3.00. (Prices in US dollars.) Once you have the shim installed, you probably have to disconnect the shift rod levers and manually feel that the transmission levers are in nuetral. You can feel when they click into neutral.
For people with a lot of experience, this adjustment thing is very easy. For people doing this for first/second time, its not that easy. Laying on your back underneath the car trying to adjust the levers can be a very uncomfrontible experience. I've put my time in.
