Are you having a problem or just seeing if it can be done? On my 78, had to cut the back of the heater box so I could get the last head bolt loose...and torqued when putting it back on. No other real problems. Covered the hole with some of that heat reflective sticky backed stuff.

As long as you have bolts and not studs you should be able to remove them. You have to get quite a bit out of the way but you can do it.

Pulled both heads a year ago on my '74 LS-4 with A/C. It's tight, you need to remove everything first, you'll bust some knuckles, and if you aren't careful, you can knock a hole in the A/C housing (guess how I know), but it can be done. And yes, I was able to properly retorque everything back in place. The engine runs and sounds good, now if I can just get the rest of the car running....
