Well i only got about 3 trips this season and then i had a rod detach from the piston

I am looking at engine options now and was wondering about my options.

I just purchased from A.R Racing a 406ci with polished canfield alum heads, polished air gap intake, steel crank, pink rods, hyperticnic pistons,7 quart pan,hyd comp cam, roller rockers,etc.450hp-480ft pounds of torque for $3,995.00
I also purchased a flywheel for $95.00.I am putting this motor in my 76 wide body 4 speed car in the fall.
I thought this deal was hard to beet for the money.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Marc.

Crate motors are the heat, and prices are very competetive. But cruise the net, do your research, compare, compare, compare

I got a GM goodwrench performance motor (505, 502). Great line of motors, great warranty, great reliability

Thier sb line is outstanding

Some of the GM performance crates are overpriced. If I were doing a camparo, I would make a decision on the name recognition of the builder, warranty and then $/HP.

If your rod problem didn't cause too much damage why not rebuild the L-48? Cost would be minimal compared to a crate engine and your potential resale value would remain high with the original engine.

that is exactly the debate i am having...

get a crate put in and rebuild the L-48.

with the 4 speed there is only so much rpm that you can pull.

I am sitting on the car for the summer while i decide, which sucks, but want to do what ever it is im going to do over the winter.

I know that it needs a rad mount as well, the current one is very rusted.
