I am trying to make one good speedometer out of two. How does the red needle come off so I can change the face. I am trying to make the best out of a bad buy on ebay. the unit was received very damaged and the seller will not make good.
You can give it a try, but I wouldn't suggest it. But, if you have nothing to lose- go for it. When I worked for a guage company, they had a little t-handle deal with a tube shaft cut up so it could surround the needle, then just pull straight up. I'm not sure if these old guages are the same though. The problem is getting it calibrated/reading correctly after you have it off. It'll be hard to get it in the same place. The guages we worked with were new and electronic movements. good luck
I did the same thing. Combined two speedos in to one. Both speedos work, but the case on the extra one was the correct case for my 76 so I switched them. Also used the mechanism because it was it a little better shape. I still ended up with two working speedos. My needle came off by simply pulling straight up on the center part. You may have to rock it slightly back and forth. Don't touch the needles! They bend easily. When you put it back on, just push it on, but make sure you have it aligned with the zero mark.
