3.08-3.36 rear w/2.20 1st is terrible. i know, i ran it for 10 years in my 61 w/270H. fun from 30mph up but awful in traffic from a stop. very hard on clutch. now i have 4.11 WOW, but no fun on highway. so if u keep that trans/rear, the most cam i would use is the 268H 218/218. Sorry. This is why they say speed costs money.
Hmm...well I'll have the money even after all the top-end stuff to buy some new gears...suggestions? 3.43's maybe? I don't want to go too crazy with them because I'll be doing some highway driving...especially since the nearest track is an hour and 45 minutes away
Okay, well I think perhaps I've reached some sort of decision...
I think I'm just going to go through with the original plan, I'm going to verify the tranny and rear-end and with that info decide on whether to get the 270H or the 280H. Perhaps the Canfields with the 270 will make the same power as the Sportsmans with the 280 (or hell, even more - who knows) so it's not like I should be under the power numbers stated in this thread. Thing is, once I start college (in September), I'm hardly ever going to be driving my car - it won't be until the end of the school year that I'll be driving it on any sort of regular basis. Once next summer rolls around, I'll use the money I saved up during the school year and the money I'll earn next summer plus the cash from selling the M-22 and buy a new tranny...maybe get a newer one with OD and stick some 4.10's in there
Well then...someone definitely lied to me No Rockcrusher here. Checked the stamping on the side of the tranny, it's a vertical stamp - M20's ended in A, M21's in B, and M22's in C...mine ends in A, which means it's an M20 here Guess I can go for the 280H after all Gotta say, this is one HUGE relief
m20 has a 2.52 1st
still ~52 in 1st(~5500rpm w/~3.08-3.36 w~26.1" tires).
better than 60 but not sweet.
35-40mph is an awesome 1st!
to simulate a big cam
start out in 2nd gear for a week.
that's about what it will drive like from a stop.

and either way I love the look...extra cooling is a bonus too:
Please explain the extra cooling from the hood swap.
...the back of the cowl is open...because of the natural air pressure levels at the base of the windshield created by the cowl, hot air from the engine bay escapes, hence the air under the hood is cooler.
