I didn't "replace" mine, but I have had it out before.

Easy 4 step process.

1. The entire passenger side dash, center console, and center gauge cluster must come out in order to give you access to several of the bolts that hold the box to the firewall.

2. You will need to remove the radiator overflow tank to give you enough room to pull the blower motor out.

3. Then you simply discconnect the receiver/dryer and all the hoses connected to the evaporator, discconnect the wires to the blower resistor and high blower relay and safety switches, unbolt the evaporator box from the firewall and lift it up out of the car.

4. Once the evaporator box is out you can then unbolt the evaporator from it and replace with a new one.

Make sure you replace all the seals when you re-assemble everything.

Shouldn't take more than two or three 8 hours days to complete, and your vocabulary will be very much "enriched" when you are done.

Good luck

Default Difficult, dirty job.

That's the worst job on my '74. I recall scraped, black and blue forearms. But wish i had removed the fender to skirt cover and accessed from underneeth to disconnect the POV. But i don't know if ur late model C3 has a POV connected outside the evaporator/htr box Adam? Anyways from under the car is the best way access to any blind fittings/connections. A couple of little screws i recall that hold the POV bracket onto the box should/must come off last and reinstall first.
I sealed the box up with RTV as that original sealer - called monkey poopie, another pain to work with - and time will tell if the RTV seals. Talking 'bout the box to box to firewall seals here - not the internal foam pieces that seal the duct doors inside (mine where all missing thanks to Bubba and hot eng compt air flowed in with vetilation ).
My evap was like brand new but had it tested and cleaned.
U may what to take some pix before and during dissasemble to help put back together.
Good luck. cardo0

I did mine today, no problem, I have a 77. I pulled it out in one piece. I had 1 bolt that was screwed from the inside. It was on the bottom of the coil box toward the motor. I left the blower motor in the box while I pulled it. My coil was plugged with leaves and crud that has been in there for a while. I cleaned the coil and put a new blower motor in than ran the fan it blows hard now. Oh I forgot to mention that I have the motor out right now so I have a lot more room but I think you should be able to get to most of the bolts from under the car and by removing the overflow tank. Hope this helps you out.
