Default timming jumps whats cause??

car has been sitting 18 years but run every year from a relative got the car put the original intake back on had the q-jet rebuilt and now it doesnt run right the timming will jump from4-8 when i have the light on it it does it ramdomly .sucked some gas out of tank to see if it had water and it looks good set the point gap starts right up but it spits through carb when you give it gas and let off and wont really clean out and rev up good so what is it ****ty gas ,bad wire, **** job on the rebuild, need adjustment getting frustrated need some help?

The timing problem could be the distributer shaft end play. May need to shim it. The carburetor popping back is probably the accelerator pump. Make sure the pump rod is installed in the hole closest to the lever fulcrum. Also, set the initial advance at 12 degrees. This will make it a little more responsive to the throttle.

its all in the carb because pulled the same carb off my brothers 71 and the thing ran like a champ so the carb is going back to the guy who rebuilt it today!! it even took care of the timming with the new carb on through timming light on the timming was steady at 8 unbeleiveable yea!!!!!!!!

The only way I can see the carburetor changing the timing is if you have the vacuum advance hooked up wrong.
