Default Manually lowering headlight door

Looking for help on lowering headlight door manually. I have read you should not do so but I had to raise to take off front bumper support. I have no wires or hoses connected so manually is my only option.

Suggestions appreciated!

If the hoses are disconnected you can lay under the car and push in the linkage to lower the headlight. If the hoses are still connected it's a lot harder to do but it will work. Pushing down on the door from the top will break things.

It's not a big deal to raise or lower the headlights manually.

If the vacuum lines are hooked-up, you will get a little resistance. Raising them is no problem...you just reach from below and push them up. Just make sure that you push on the headlight door's body and not stuff sticking out. When they've been pushed high enough, a locking mechanism will prevent the lights from falling down.

Lowering them is a little more tricky. You can't just push down on the assembly. When the headlights are raised, like I mentioned above, they have a locking arm that gets thrown into position so the lights won't fall.

To lower them you need to reach from below (or through the grille area if it's out) and pull the mechanism forward to unlock the linkage.

It's actually really simple once you done it a time or two. Just make sure that you don't pull on the headlight ajar switch that is connected to the linkage...it will break off.

Good luck...

I used to do that all the time on my old '76 to "hurry" a slow headlight.

right in the middle between the headlights is the spring assembly.

you have a verticle flat bar with a dime size hole in it which is the farthest forward piece of the assembly. Pull it forward and it unlocks for lowering the lights
