I have an air gap intake on an engine of mine (350). I know that in the Edelbrock magazine that it says it will not fit under the stock hood of my 76'. I have called them and they couldn't help me. I was disapointed. well what i want to know is if i use a drop base filter, can i get it to fit. I did some measuring and i believe that i found if i use a 1/2 inch drop that it will just rub the mat on the inside of the hood. Which it does with the stock motor and aircleaner. Help Please.
I would just suggest borrowing a drop base air cleaner and giving it a try, or take it to Autozone and ask them to let you take the air cleaner out to the car to see if it will fit, or buy one and bring it back if it doesn't fit.
You will need a drop base cleaner. You can also dremel down the cleaner and center carb stud as low as possible to add clearance. Make sure the carb linkage isn't restricted.

Air Gap
I don't know about a 76, but I have one in a 82 with a drop down base I got from Auto Zone. I have a k&n filter(height you have to figure) with the K&n filtered top.

Tony,it definitely does fit with a k&n drop base(does in my 74r) but make VERY SURE that you cut down the carb stud BEFORE you drop the hood the first time,in mine the stud is just long enough to get a nut on it.....john
Oh and another thing, make sure the base of the air filter is tall enough so that the accelerator pump lever doesn't hit the bottom of the base; it will cause a high idle.
