Have been working on a 78 project car that was left outside in the Florida sun and heat for six years. When changing power booster removed the steering column. While removing the electrical connectors they turned to pieces from being so brittle from the heat. Looked in plenty of catalogs haven't seen connectors for sale just the whole wiring harness. Does any member from the board know where individual pieces can be bought, not the whole harness? These connectors are the type where you push the clip with the wire attached to it, inside the connector. The connector goes to the ignition swith cluster, which consists of 2 seperate connectors. Thanks for any help, houstonvett
Ouch...that's bad news. Not sure they sell those things seperately. Might want to check in the Ecklers and other catalogs and see.
If the connectors were that brittle, what kind of shape is the wiring in?
Might be better just to bite the bullett and buy that whole harness if the wires are crispy too. I know it ain't cheap...I think in the neighborhood of $380-$400. It includes a new fuse box.
I will need one for my car because of previous bubba activity.
you might try Digikey, these guys have a ton of electronincs stuff. Most of the connectors that i have seen come for one of several manufactures like AMP, Molex ect.
I put in a replacement harness but still have my old one on the shelf. As far as I remember, the ignition switch connectors were in good shape. I'm happy to cut them off and send them to you if you'd like. Send a private message if you're interested.
