I'm thinking of switching to a 5 speed. I wouldn't do it myself and will have it done professionaly. What I need to know is:
What is the best one to use?
What is the cost to switch one over nuts to bolts including the trans?
Will it fit in the factory console?
And anyone who did this is it really worth it?
Everyone seems to love the Keisler, but you are talking about approximately 3k just for the parts. I would certainly budget 4000-if you are not going to do it yourself. The difference is supposed to be pretty dramatic, but that is a lot for a transmission. Good luck

That is the one I have in my vette. It has been in there now a couple of years. It will really cut your cruising RPMs down to a more reasonable level which we have all become accostomed to with todays OD cars. Straight forward install and no cutting required.
The kiesler kit seems to be a well thought out option, especially if you are concerned about modifications being made to your car.
If you are less concerned about cutting the drive tunnel or the crossmember there can be a significant savings to getting a TKO from one of the many vendors that sells them.
For example, full installed with everything hooked up and working I am running a TKO 5 speed and the total cost installed is just a hair over $2k.
I installed it myself. However, if you arent ready for that level of effort then the Kiesler kit is by far the best option I would say.
Oh and by the way, it is the single best moedification I have ever made to the car - making it much more in keeping with the modern OD cars of today.. I can even cruise with the newer cars
This transmission looks like a 5 speed Richmond transmission. The Richmond started out life as a Doug Nash 5 speed. Richmond then bought out Doug Nash. Is the Richmond now a GFr-5?
I'm interested because I have a new Richmond 5 speed. On good thing about the Richmond is that 5th gear is 1:1, so if you're happy with your rear end ratio, you won't have to change with the Richmond. With the Keisler, 5th gear is an overdrive gear.

I think it was originally. Many of the G-Force transmissions are worked over units. The T-101 is actually a Super T-10. Many companies take a Richmond trans and "super duty" them. At $5000 it definitely has to be MORE than an original Richmond though.

I think the reason many people, including myself, are drawn to Keisler is because 5th is overdriven. Many people like it due to the fact that it lowers cruising rpms and saves gas...yeah yeah yeah thats nice but I like it cause it lets me change that rev limited top speed of 125 to 183 Haven't gotten it yet, but once I save up the money its definately my top choice. Depends on who you're planning to have install it. Are you comfortable with them making mods on the fly to graft the 5-speed into your car? If not, the Keisler kit is probably the best bolt-in KIT out there. There are lots of other trannys that can be installed (even a FORD T-5 like I did, but they require more work).
The Keisler is the best bolt in transmission without any mods going. The OD works very well. I installed it by myself with no problems at all. I did cut the crossmember but I did it because I have a blow shield and Iwanted it to be able to come out very easy. It did not take long to do either. The car is a whole different car to drive now. I got a deal from a forum member who decided to go another way on his transmission. I got it for quite a bit less than 3K.
Keisler is Tremec. Classic Chevy is Tremec. Same tranny. The difference is in the shifter, the engineering in the shifter, the related equipment and the customer service. Let the customer be the judge. Just check out your options before you lay out your hard earned money. You will feel better about spending it if you know what your options are. What ever you decide to buy is your decision. Just be informed!

Check out classicchevy5speed.com before you buy. I think you will be surprised at you're options.

This is who I used & Jeff answers the phone un like other mentioned here. Ships very quick & is alot cheaper than others. Best thing I did to the vett. Just alittle over idle @ 55mph. I figure my top speed is around 185 also, but not with me in it. It does fit in the origional console with very little mods ...everything else is an easy bolt up. You will have to have the driveshaft shortened , probably $75.00 to $90.00 is a fair price. Total price is around $2500.00 for a do it your self install & if I remember that included the new clutch assy. Call Jeff or go on there site.
Good luck
