Default Dumb Spark Plg Size Question

Why are different plugs with for same application different sizes?

I have triple checked multiple websites that the ones I pulled out, and the ones I bought are correct for my car, but look at the difference in size...

...just curious as to why....
Thanks!

That is simply a difference in insulator height.
I think you can actually get them much shorter, also.
What matters is the length of the threads and electrode length.
The NGKs you show look to be a slightly hotter plug - since the
inner electrode appears to be longer. This should be fine, since it looks
like the old plug was running a bit too cool - or carb running rich.

compare the seat location on both plugs. They look the same from the engine side. To me, the NGK's look like they are just shorter, something that some people with headers look for.

Thanks guys - just didnt know what the barrell looking part was between the seat and the nut...I guess its not important?

Sounds like I am good to go with plugging these things in (except that I need to buy a short extension to get #1 out!!!)
