I own a white 94 right now and over the last year or so have went back and forth on what my next vette will be. I have decided i would love to pick up an 82 because it was the year i was born, and the car has to be white. Other than that fill me in on these cars. From the white 82's i have seen for sale they have all had red interior but it was either bright red or a dark red, is their other interior colors available on white in this year?
Also what are common known problems with these cars and what to look for? From what i have noticed the price range seems to be very large anywhere from 7k into the mid to upper teens, im really just looking for a nice car in good condition, doesnt need to be mint but i dont want something needs alot of work either.
Edit: oops i guess this probably should have been in gen.
You need a copy of The Corvette Black Book or The Illustrated Corvette Buyer's Guide . All the 82s were built at Bowling Green, all are automatics, all are coupes, all have TBI and computers. Two-tone exterior paint was available.
First year of 700R4 tranny so look for to see if the tranny has been replaced.
Cross Fire injection, not TPI or LT1 so more difficult to mod unless you pull the intake and CPU and start over. Look for signs of bubba under the hood. If everything is still intact, your doing great.
If it's tuned and runs good it is a great cruiser, nice ride, 22-24mpg on the highway with the OD. I love mine. You should be able to get a nice one for less than $12K. Just make sure it's pretty much stock under the hood. A lot of times Bubba tried to mod these and really screwed them up. If it's running bad you'll know it! And as always check the frame.
Good luck
The production numbers were kinda low on the '82, IIRC. Finding a living and unbastardized one for a decent price won't be the easiest of tasks. However, there's a place in like Phoenix, Arizona that has tons of them restored, I believe. Search around the net and you'll find it.
I found a nice 82 here in the netherlands (for someone else), and when I say nice I mean real nice, almost all original 2 tone, if I can find one here it surely must be possible to find one over there.
Thanks for the input, i have been going back on forth between a c5 and c3. But with the c5's still on the decline i thought the next vette should be a c3 and i always wanted my birth year for a vette so it means that little bit more.
I will probably end up holding off till next summer but i like to get as much info and look at as many as possible before buying. It took 2 years on here before i got my c4.
