How can I tell the difference in differential covers ? I went to Carlisle last weekend and saw a few covers (mine is cracked) It seems like every vender had one that would fit . sometimes I think they tell you whether they know or not. I need to now the differeneces from 68 to 82 . Whats a good price ?

From 63-79 all the covers are the same. 80-82 used a different rear, it is aluminum.

Gordonm...that is incorrect, yes the covers WILL bolt up to the rear end BUT 78-79 used a wider (2 1/2") spring with smaller bolts where the 63-77 cars took a 2 1/4 wide spring and a 9/16 bolt.....if you have an 80-82 your on your own I have no clue on those.

PS: I have a brand new Muskegon (63-77 style) HD cover for sale AND a later (78-79) rear cover for sale if anyone is interested!! e-mail DIRECT!! redvetracr@msn.com

I picked up a '79 cover at a car show for $25.00. Works great! Just be sure to use the correct bolts, lock washers for all four bolts and two flat washers for the two front bolts; otherwise they might crack the housing.

So a 78 and 79 will work on a 75 ? I'm safe as long as its not for a 80 -82 ?

I believe there is a difference in early and late '79s. The late ones have the smaller bolts.

It was very early for me. You are right. The 78-79 cars mounting pad was different. It will fit but you must use the correct size spring and bolts. Make sure you have the correct spring and bolts whichever cover you have.

For the 80-82 the cover is integrated with the crossmember. It's a big chunk of aluminum and is sometimes called the bat-wing. It looks very similar to the one used in the C4's

I have bought a composite spring, shocks, rear cover, and a new set of bolts from Justin in the last couple weeks. Excellent products, knowledge, service, and quick shipping.
thanks Justin,
Jerry
