I am clueless, what would you have to do do get LS6 type HP and performance out of a LS4? I have a 73 454 with a 72 intake (no smog stuff) that has been bored .30, balanced and .500 lift 218deg. cam and hypereutectic dome pistons installed. It would seem to me the heads would be the next place to go. What could I do that would give me a little more umph without loosing the driveability??

I own the genuine article, however years ago, when I couldn't afford the real McCoy, I took a '71 LS-5 coupe and cloned it to a LS-6, engine wise.
Change out the pistons to a higher compression open chamber style, acquire the square port, holley carb flanged aluminum manifold, acquire a set of 3956074 L-88/LS-6/ZL-1 aluminum heads. Get a Crane blueprint series cam replacement for 1969-71 L-71/LS-6 specs.
These changes aren't everything, but should give a thrill ride.

I think the crank was forged too on the LS-6. Watch the pistons though. There are actually two types of LS-6 replacement pistons. One version is the '71 LS-6 replacements which have a smaller dome(13.6cc disp I think) than the '70 LS-6 pistons which went in the Chevelles.
