Ok my rochester is bad, runs lean and looks nasty. I want a replacement to get me by for the next year on the tired l-48. Nothing fancy, too expensive, or too powerful. I just want it to look decent and fix some minor carb related issues.
I know I could get another rochester, but that would involve lots of tuning and adjusting. I'd prefer just bolt on and drive.
What would yall recommend for something like this?
I am unsure about performance gains and such but the $240 Edelbrock from AZ that I bought uns great (right out of the box)....
I put an Edlebrock on mine too, fired up and ran great first try. Have had ZERO problems with it so far. Would reccomend an Edelbrock carb to anyone now that I've tried one!

I don't think there's a better deal, $240 is including the sales tax, no core charge, no shipping, no BS..... take it out of the box, bolt it on, start the engine and be happy.... 600cfm is good enough for a mild (stock) SB...
I chose the model with manual choke (not connected) since I'm in FL and I don't have 'cold mornings'......

I went with the 750cfm since the plan is to stroke the engine in the fall. I think RedBad1979 is one of those who suggested the Edelbrock when I asked the same question...........thanks a bunch! Everyone warned me that 750cfm was too much but adjusted out it runs very well with no bog.
I had the original Qjet, then a Holley 4150, now an Edelbrock. The Edelbrock could not have been easier. I actually bought a used one off of Ebay (gotta be sure it's in good shape though) for $120 and it required no tuning. Runs great. Mine is the model 1405 600CFM Edelbrock Performer. Don't get the electric choke, since it's tuned more for efficiency than performance.

You're probably using smaller jets- I had a 750cfm Holley when I bought the car, it did not run very good at all but the old carburetor's age may have been a contributor to that problem.....
I'm planning to stroke my engine as soon as a rebuild is needed, anytime between now and next year... I hope the old L48 makes it through the winter so I can save some $$$

I also got model 1405 - the cheapest you're in Houston ?? In that case a choke is probably a waste of $$
