Stereo was an EXPENSIVE option back in '68 and '69 so not many were equipped with it. I think '68 and '69 radios are the same. The ***** are definitely different.

I have an 8-track player I'll sell ya. I'm pretty sure it's a Delco....or is it a Kraco? Hmmmm......

I was fortunate that the previous owner kept the original radio when he installed the POS 8 track. He also left the heatsink/transistor deal installed so putting the original radio back in was a no brainer. But alas, it's a mono AM/FM.

Sounds like the original owner of your car knew what option boxes to check off. Too bad subsequent owners didn't realize his wisdom.

I believe this is a mono radio. If it is stereo, it should have a small round light on the face, I believe it's to the right of the AM/FM slider bar.

As others have said, the ***** for '68 are unique (in fact I've read that there were actually 3 different styles of ***** used in '68 alone!)

Hope that helps!
Jeff

yes the ori.owner did know what boxes to check, and he kept the car stock until he sold it in 74,he diddnt want to sell it but was in a bar one nite ,had a few to many and said the first guy who comes up with 3600.00 can buy the car,two days later someone he diddnt know pull up to hes house with 3600.00,so he sold it as a man of hes word, talked to him about a month ago and he still has bad feelings about it,the guy he sold it to is the one to make afew changes, had the stereo in his shop for years and diddnt sell it when he sold the car back in 78?only 5 or more years ago did he sell it to some guy in Aus. bummer !

From what I can see, the 7303275 number is on the face of all the AMFM radios from 68-76. I think it's the part number for the face of the radio. Based on the radios I've seen, I'm guessing the correct "service model number" for a 68 AMFM mono is 81YFP2, and for AMFM Stereo, it's 81YFM2. The first number relates to "68", a 69 would start with 9, etc. FP relates to FM Pushbutton, and FM relates to FM stereo. The service model number is on a paper? tag on the side of the radio, if it's still on the radio. I think the 68-71 radios have green numerals and 72-76 have white numerals, and yes the stereo radios have a yellow or "amber" dot in the right upper corner of the face.
