Noise is the nature of the beast - sports cars. In the "olden days" they were only given enough niceities to get to market. They were designed by a racer (Duntov) and meant to be driven fast, the Hell with all but the basic comfort and that's way it should be.
headers, no cats, 2 1/2" pipes, some really small mufflers...that'll cure it...
I'll add NO headers, use stock iron log manifolds, 2" pipes. VERY LOUD RADIO..... and door shields will not stop much, even carpet insulation will not help much.
Well in the real world here's what allows me to hold a conversation with my passenger or listen to the radio.
Brown Bread found on ebay.Removed carpet and put three layers from front to back including battery and storage compartments.
One layer on the doors.
Then all new weatherstrip kit from Corvette Rubber.
Its not a C5 but its a bunch quieter than when the General made it.
I have a 79 L48 with 2" from the stock manifolds, thru the cross member into 2 1/2", an H pipe to 4000 series Flowmasters in the back. It roars and rumbles but no resonance at all or noise in the cockpit.

in the other real world, they're all a little noisy (well, the good ones are)...but you can still talk and hear the radio juuust fine in most of 'em...
