Default 6AL box and killin wires...

Just put a 6AL box on a few weeks ago and the other day I was hearing a spark gap arch..... Yep burnt thru the insulation and grounding to the closest thing.. That being the upper plug wire support closest to the distributor... These are less than two year old Taylor 8mm spiral coil wound... Or if you are running a 6AL Box what plug wires have you had good luck with.. Thanks as always..... Dave..

I'm running a Mallory box on another car with Taylors. No problems. I'm wondering if, even after only two years, your wires had developed some cracks prior to the MSD box being installed. How are your plug gaps? The spark will (obviously) take the path of least resistance to ground. If your plug gap is too wide, combined with some minor sheathing damage to the wires, well, you know.

Whatever the problem is, I'd certainly not think that it would be related to the BRAND of wires. Many folks run MSD boxes with stock wires without issues.

Running the entire MSD 6AL system here including the MSD wires. Been trouble free some 6 years now.

Dave,
I use MSD 8.5mm Superconductor wires. No problems for 3 years as well.

MSD 6T & Taylor Spiro-Pros. What spark plug gap are you running? I always set mine at .040", no problems. Same plug wires for 5 years.

You just reminded me what a snake's nest mine is....

Yeah, the MSD ignition will really do nothing to make your wires "leak"...

And, having an I know messier, damnit! version of Theandies setup, I don't even hesitate touching the wires anywhere and never get shocked. I've had good wires, bad wires, whatever.....all of them can develop a fault from an unnoticed cut or too hot contact over time.
Two years at 10+K miles a year is a decent lifespan for wire, really, although these MSD have lasted longer than that through a lot of breakdowns and other incidents.

I think that it may have just been rubbing for a little bit on the support and that must have been enough to cause a weak spot.. Oh well.. Gotta love ignition shielding... I guess I've driven about 5k since I've put these on in the last two years.. Time to pony up for a new set and make sure I don't have any rubbin.. Funny thing is it wore thru the grommet spacer then rubbed on the bracket.... Also I'm only running about .035 of a gap... Thanks guys someone always has an answer around here... Dave..
