If it is the top cap you are referring to, remove the screws that fasten it to the dash pads below. You will probably have to remove the side pillar [winshield] upholstery as well. Now this where I had to figure this out for myself, you pick the passenger side up first and slide it all the way to the top of the pillar as you will need to to get the dash cap around the pillars to get it out. Be gentle with everything as dash pads are expensive to replace. Also remember to unhook any speaker wires while you are removing. I had mine out once to replace items behind the dash. Now I am removing it this fall to replace the two front dash pads and gauges. Ps I cannot remember if the mirror was in the road or not but you can remove it easily if necessary.
You have to remove the passenger side lower dash because there is a bracket behind there to secure the upper dash. Removing the side pillar dash is also helpful.
I had to gently "bow" the dash in the middle to get it out from behind the pillars.

Also...wrap both top cap ends with a small towel so your don't scratch/rip them as you remove it.

Even with the side pillar covers off I had to gently bow my dash to get it out. When reinstalling I did the same and the thing snapped in half. The new dash from Mid America went in much much easier.
