So we need to put A 6 point roll cage in the C-3 to pass inspection at Bonneville. We already have a 4 point - so we will just add a "bolt on " halo and the 2 front connections.
The trouble is - there seems to be no room to put in the drivers side support - well there is room - assuming you don't need your left hand on the steering wheel. We are only getting about 1.5 - 2 inches of clearance.
Under the frame I welded a plate, it is easy to get at this spot. On this plate I welded a standoff to go through the floor keeping it tight to the frame for maximum leg/foot clearnace
On top of this standoff you can weld or bolt the rest of the cage.
Hope this helps

Do you have the tilt teli column? Well I do. If I have my wheel tilted up or the steering wheel forward I can not fit my fingers between the front window post and the wheel. i can only use my lowest and second lowest to the lap positisions and then I never think about the bars. Well i forgot to say that the other day i got caught in an afternoon shower and I have to reach through my steering wheel to get to my wipers. To my suprise they even worked
If you don't have tilt/teli I would suggest a smaller diameter wheel. It would also help in getting in and out.

Oliver I am still having problems picturing your roll cage. When I sit in the car my elbow rest comfortably on the top of the door with the window open and my shoulder belt passes through the seat at least 1/2 way between the roof and the top of the door panel or steering wheel. This shoulder strap comes almost straight off the cross bar to the roll cage.
In all your pictures your cross bar is extremely low, way below the bottom of the steering wheel, the bar is to be about shoulder height. Even with a lowered seat your shoulder is not below the top of the door panel, even if you sit on the floor.
This has always confused me????
This is a stock seat with the shoulder belt passing through the seat in the stock location. My cross bar is directly behind the seat, at about the same height as the shoulder belt.
Instructions with the belts specify that the shoulder strap be mounted no lower then 4 inches below the shoulder.

If you can ignore my door bars, perhaps this picture will give you some ideas. I have a 15" removable Grant steering wheel on (installed after this picture) and there is 3.25" clearance between the windshield post roll bar and the steering wheel.
My side uprights are a little more outboard than Norvell's. I welded mountings on the inboard side of the frame which probably gives me a couple more inches of clearance.
