Tranny rebuild
Just what is involved in rebuilding it? Is there a rebuild kit out there?
I'm assuming its the synchro dogs but not sure.
I remember my 69 (SB) shifted with 2 fingers and this one has always shifted with your entire arm, pretty heavy. Several lbs pressure to go into any gear... except reverse.
The gear linkage has been adjusted, several times and even the side cover removed to check out the detents... no luck.
Also I'm assuming the car originally was driven quite hard. Hi rev BB with close ration and 4.11s. This might have something to do with the tranny- and the broken spindle
(is broken presently but getting ready to fix the broken rear wheel spindle soon)!
http://www.5speeds.com/. I want to say that it looks pretty easy but right now it looks like I have a danting task ahead of me. Good luck if you decide to rebuild your your self!
some diehard dragsters used to modify the Muncie to avoid having to use the clutch....just slam the sam out of it from one gear to the next.
..like i said probably a wild guess
I'm currently trying to get my 4 speed installed and have ran into some educational experiences about ascertaining that the correct parts are used....starting all over again tonight
Bellhousing, throwout bearing, pressure plate, clutch fork and ball stud for clutch fork, WERE ALL WRONG!! Bolted up nicely, but couldn't adjust clutch, that's when (the worst time) we started looking /investigating part numbers for this project. Practically, all parts sources were selling me the wrong quit!!
GMpartsDirect.com is a good source for correct parts and part numbers. good luck, jim
High redline BB, close ratio, 4.11s am/fm radio (not stereo) and power windows.
The clutch fork adjustment was played with and that didn't seem to make a diff. To different clutches.
Blackrat I'm waiting for you to finish yours and fill us on complexities
