Hey yall i have a question about my intake. The 454 im dropping in my car i found out is an ls7 not ls6 mine came from factory with aluminum heads learn something new everyday anyways i got the engine from my step dad for 2500$ rebuilt and i checked it out for the first time without the air cleaner and carb on and i noticed the high rise manifold carb mount flange is sitting off center the old guy is off working so i couldnt ask him but normaly the mount is sitting straight ahead with the rest of the battleship what advantage would this have and when its mounted in the car i estimated the carb will stick out of the hood a bit and im going to run a butterfly scoop will my carb sit off center or is there an adapter to line the carb straight again? I know this may sound stupid to those who know but like i always say it might sound stupid to those who know the question but just like a young buck i work with asked me the other day can you weld mild steal to aluminum? i didnt make him feel like a jack *** or not reply at all..like my last post i told him why and the steps why it wouldnt work now he knows.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
Is it offcenter or on an angle I have seen some older intakes that put the carb on an angle for some reason, probably it was for better flow but didn't catch on
If you were standing infront of the car looking at the engine and the distributor was 12:00 it looks like the back of the carb would sit around 1:00 and the front of the carb about 7:00 it looks like the top is sitting level my guess would be its for a larger carb so it clears the dist cap ? must be a preety big carb if so but than again im still learning so far 75% of what ive learnt about my car is from you guys the one thing i did figure out on my own though is swapping the half shafts and stubs for 1350s rather than the weak 1330 spicer.i have an auto tranny why they put such a weak spicer in who knows but as i see they came to there senses in 82
Engine is offset to right for balance w/ driver only.
Carb at an angle on BB intake was to make the combined head & intake port paths more equal length.
That would make sense and it makes it different witch i like thanks for the help motor head ,ganey does anyone know if my carb will sit straight ? oh ya hope you dont mind ive got a picture of your car from behind on my custom screen saver motorhead now i know whos car it is what a sssswwweeeeeeettttt ride ive also got norvals and a couple others i dont know if you remember the quik and short thread i did called whos got the best chick on corvette pictures but a couple of those good ones aswell the perfect screen saver.oh ya that post i did got like 1100 hits

if the engine is offset to the right will my carb not be centered when i cut the hole in the hood? if it is even a quarter of an inch offset ill half to choose another path it will bug me to the point of taking the hood off all together.
Edelbrock put a significant twist pretty much as you described in the mounting flange of their Torker and Tarantula manifolds back in the early 70's on their BB manifolds. I don't remember any of the Chevy factory manifolds having this feature.
As previously stated it was to provide a better flow from the carb to the intake ports, but I don't recall any test data on the effectiveness of it. If you have an issue with it or feel it will interfere, you can switch to a factory manifold.
Im not sure if it is an after market or not i couldnt see any logos on it but by the sounds of it its not common witch makes it very valuable to me different is better
