Somebody was talking about doing this a while ago, never saw the results though. He had already found seats with the side-airbags deployed. I think he was quoted something like $50 to fix/replace the blown out parts.

Was he the guy that was going to replace the blown out parts with a blow up doll?
It can be done but requires the entire original floor pans to be cut out and new fabricated (lower) floor pans installed. It is not an easy under-taking. I installed C6 seats (with motors, lumbar support, the works) in my C3 (1977 t-top). They will fit but only by cutting out the original floor. Ps. Be careful on the drivers side because of the fuel and brake lines that are mounted underneath.

Corvette Fever still has their web site on line. Under "Project" cars there is a detailed article on installing C5 sports seats in a C3. They show you how to make the seat brackets to fit in C3 with a lot of photos.
you may be correct, likely couldn't gain more than an inch or so. not like My old pantera where i got an extra 2" that helped alot in that car. my new seats are comfy anyhow, just saved me a bundle!
