You may need a BB hood but so what. You will have a BB. Get the engine in the car and worry about the rest later. Sounds like a rare opportunity to get a BB at a good price.
I am knees deep in it right now here is a good sight it will give you every detail (check out the tall deck problems encountered) http://www.diabolicalperformance.com/c3bigblock.html hope that helps if you get an easyer block to work with it will be worth all the hassles its all about the ft pounds. And you will notice (FROM ABOVE) its a good idea to get a couple of oppinions when it comes to a large project and the wrong motor and people like skunk weed.worry about who you can sell it too more like obviously knows damn well it wont work just wont say hey bud it wont work!
thank for the great site 454 the big caption got my attention
"Do NOT try to use a tall-deck big-block engine. The 0.4” offset screws up your exhaust, brackets, intake manifold, etc. Just don’t do it."
A tall deck will be a lot more work than a standard 427. All the brackets manifolds and if you have power brakes it will be even worse. I would pass on it even though it sounds like a great deal.
