Default "Capping" the speedo cable drive...???

Got a '76 w/ a '95 LT1/4L60e and originally had an adaptor that allowed me to use my mechanical speedo w/ the electronic tranny. The adaptor gears supplied to me were WAY off (about 30%!), so instead of going w/ one of those "reducer boxes" or swapping in the correct gears (Driven gear is no prob, but the drive gear = PITA!) I just installed the AutoMeter Phantom electronic speedo and need to put a "cap" where the speedo cable connects to the tranny adaptor (same threads as TH350/ TH400, etc).

Any ideas of what I can screw into it's place? I know the tranny pumps some fluid (although minimal, I'm sure) through there.

Thanks!

This is what I want to "cap". Anyone know the thread size? Home depot and Lowes were of NO assistance when I brought in the speedo cable to determine.

Thanks!

They make a replacement for the whole deal. it replaces the thing that the black metel bracket holds in.

427 and markdtn - Thanks, I'll look into that...wasn't aware of such a product.

terry - The electronic Auto Meter speedo looks pretty much like the mechanical version except that it has a digital odometer/trip-meter. They measure slightly smaller than our stock gauges, so you'll want to make a bracket to fit. I have a .pdf of this template if you need it... forum member "442Olds" or "Olds442" (sorry, but one of these is correct!) provided this and REALLY came in handy. Since I'm using an electronic tranny now, it was just easier to go with this than replace the incorrect drive and driven gears in the tranny adaptor I am using (that's why I can cap it off now).

Assuming I can post a pic, here it is in the LH dash panel along w/ it's matching tach:

More info can be found on Autometer's site: http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugede...earch&gid=2632

Let me know if have any other questions about the gauges or need the template.

Dr.
