Default Smog Question

I'm planning on removing the smog stuff on my 73 L-48. Yhe nuts for the air tubes turn very easy!!!!!!!!!!!! Any ways what size plug do I need to plug the holes at the manifolds? It is all stock. Thanks. Oh one more thing how do u replace the plug wires to the 1,3 and the 2,4 plugs. The block and the engine mount prevent me from getting the wires out. Thanx

The plugs on my 73 and 78 are 1/4" pipe thread. Sorry can't help ya on the plug wires. Put new ones on mine and had no problem getting them out or the new ones in. if you have a pic it would help.

Is your car registered as an antique in Illinois? Otherwise, you're still facing smog testing...

For the plug wires, you can remove the distributer boot from your new wires and remove the spark plug boot from your old wires tape them together. Have a friend slowly pull the wire up toward the distrubuter while you help ease it thru from underneath the car. Works like a top! A fellow CF member clued me in.

The threads are NOT! pipe thread, they are a tube thread (1/2" fine thread.) You can buy plugs with the correct thread at NAPA parts stores, Wheatherhead 151X5 is the nuber from memory. I have a set of 2" diamter outlet "Rams Horn" exhaust manifolds for $140 shipped to you if you live within $40 shipping cost of my 94536 Zip code if you wat to look clean when you remove everything. you could also get some 1/2" fine thread Socket Head set screws to plug those holes but, again it wont look very good in my opinion.
