Check your VIN first. Fifth digit L-L48. Fifth digit X-L82. Presuming it's the original motor. Probably an L48, as there would be obvious identifying items that would tell you it's L82. Hood emblems, tach face, valve covers.

If it 's a four speed, and has a rear sway bar it's an L82. And it will say so on the hood, too. I wasn't so lucky but I love my car anyway!

The VIN engine code is a sure bet, providing the engine is original. Emblems, sway bars, tach faces etc are not reliable since any could have been added by a previous owner.

Sorry, don't agree. Four speed was standard with either motor anf the rear sway bar came with the FE7 suspension which a cheap option and available on any car. My '75 is documented L-48, 4 speed, rear sway bar (FE7) car.
Back to the original post. The VIN is a good clue. Also, there should a be a three letter stamp on the engine ID pad next to the VIN (in front of the passenger cylinder head). The VIN will help you confirm if it is the original engine. The engine code (look for something like CHT, CVM, etc) will tell you the application of the engine. I don't have the codes handy but they are in the Corvette Black Book which is a nice reference guide.

How did you find out the year of the car? I could not find it in his posts or profile.
