Does anyone know of a modification that can replace the stock heater/defroster switches (the two wheel type) for a 75 vet? I have replaced these 3 times and want to get rid of the stock unit. The car is not stock. Any help would be appreciated.
Not easily. You could change the whole dash for the 77 up, but that would be a lot of work for a little problem. Are you cables free and all the mode doors free? If you are breaking the strings on 3 conntrols, something is binding up on you. I would replace the cables and lube everything up and try another rebuilt control.
The A/C Vent controls would need to be changed, not the dash.

Actually, the console & center gauge cluster was changed for 77.
The 77 console & gauge cluster should work easily.
78- got the new dash, door panels, etc. The 78- cluster would need to be modified to fit.
The A/C Vent controls would need to be changed, not the dash. Opening size about 5 1/2 X 1 3/4.
The controls for 77 & 78 up C3 are similiar to what GM normally used on it's other cars so they in general should work also.
Agree w/ the conclusion that probably something is binding like a controlled vent or routing of the cable.
If you still have the big thumbwheels that control the cables then its the plastic gear the thumbwheel is turning. It breaks.
I'm going to get one from here https://sdp-si.com/eStore/Default.asp
The tree is
gears
--spur gears
----metal.
You also need a shaft since the shaft is cast in plastic with the gear.
You'll need to pull the thing apart to find out which gear, pitch and diameter you need.
I think there is the cable problem too. It must be kinked or smashed to be breaking the plastic gear.
