Default Dumb Q-Jet question

Are the mixture screws supposed to be actual screws, ya know with slotted heads that you can turn with a flat screwdriver?

I just got my motor back together and now that it has a new timing chain and no vacuum leaks it of course runs WORSE than it did before, so I figure it's time to try and tune the carb. Went to turn in the mixture "screws" and they aren't screws but sort-of oval-shape-headed things. Did Bubba beat me to them or what? I'm gonna have to grind a notch into a screwdriver to turn those things....

I believe they have a plastic cap you pry off and then you can adjust the screw.

I'm assuming you are referring to a '79.
Yes, they have funky heads on the mixture screws. I don't recall the name right offhand, but your local tool store should have them. Most come on a screwdriver with a flexible shaft. It can be kinda hard to get to with a straight shaft.

Thanks, funky head indeed, it looks like this:

Yes it's the same shape and size as a "zero" in whatever the forum default font is. I'm glad it's supposed to be like that, everything else on my car has been buggered up by the previous owner so I never know.

They are called Double D heads. You can buy a flexible adjusting tool for them at most part stores.
