I have a 1980 vett the A/C was not hooked up and there was at some time a fire under the hood. I have put a whole new A/C system in only to discover there not current going to the low pressure switch so no current to the compressor. Also, I don't find a slectrical A/C switch on the console only the vaccum selector. Last but not least there are a couple of electrical connectors near the compressor that are not connected to anything.
Where is the electrical switch to send current to the compressor?
Does the curent go through relays etc.?
Can I send streight 12volts to the low pressure switch and not dammage the system?
If this switch is missing can I find the proper wires and use any kind of switch and also if I cant find proper wires can send 12 volts to the recycle switch?
Yes, I said above:
If there is enough freon in the system, then power can be applied directly. (to the pressure switch)
Use at least a 25 Amp. switch & 16 wire.
Thanks so much for the information. I am pretty sure there is no switch on my consol. Some previous owner was named Buba and disconected or failed to do many things right. I think the switch was removed or replaced by a control system that was not for a car with A/C. I will possible get a good switch and good power source and run a temporary set up to get my A/C going since I have just installed everything else new and it is hot here in Mississippi.
Bobby,
I strongly suggest that you get a good wiring diagram. That alone will anwer a lot of questions. Also recommend the service manual from GM and the AIM.
But even if you don't get the diagram from me, get a wiring diagram.
