My 72 SB has developed an intermittent chirp in the tach cable. In an earlier post it ws suggested that I lubricate it at the distributor end. I did that to no avail and I have disconnected it so as to not get further damage.
What is the easiest way to access the dashboard connection so I can try to lub there. I should also probably "spin" the cable so as to work the lube in at both ends and to confirm that the chirp is indeed at that end. Anybody know which way it turns? I don't want to do any damage.
It's a pain to get to the other end. I used to just get some oil and drip it in the distrib end. Raise that end up and support it overnight or for several hours. Also, there is a fitting you can get now that screws on the end of the tach and speedo that has a grease zerk on it. You just use your grease gun (can't remember who sells them, though).
When you get it loosened up, spin it with your fingers. If the tach doesn't move, spin it the other way.
