Back Up Lights
Hi, I have a 70 vette with an automatic and would like to know if there is an adjustment on the shifter cable for the back up light as I have to play around with my shifter to get them to light up. Thanks, Jim
Take off you shifter console plate. Your Neutral Saftey switch should be attached to your shifter on the passenger side. You need to remove the 4 bolts that hold the shifter down, to get at the bolts that hold the Neutral Saftey switch on. Loosen those a little. Have someone stand behind your car to look at your lights as you move the switch around. (I used a Mirror, but a person would have been eaiser.) Put the can in "R" move the switch forward or reverse, till the light comes on, tighten switch bolts snug, put in park, try to start. Keep playing with that until you get it. then tighten switch bolts good. Mine took a few try's prior to getting it correct.
I took a maker and put a line on the back of the switch so I know where to put it, if it gets off kilter again. IF you take the switch off, when re installing, the shifter must be in Drive when you insert the pin.
Good luck.
