sidepipe question
Have just installed hooker headers and sidepipes. Tried with glasspak insterts, and without. A little too loud without, set of burgular alarms a block away, glasspaks a little to quite.
My question is could I cut glasspak in half and expect to be somewhere in the middle of the sound range between open sidepipe and the glasspak insert.
Just a thought I could cut in half and slide in. Any thoughts.

My name is john, I just bought the same set up for my 79. Its not installed yet and I didnt know if it would be too loud, and if it was, what kind of muffler to put in there. There is the glass pack like yours and also a reverse flow PN# hok-21002hkr. Do you know if one will be louder than the other. Might be something to look in to.

fixed it I think
I cut the glasspak insert in half and put those in and it sounds great. Well I am old but still love the sound of power, but open Hooker side pipes are just a little bit much on mine.

Side Pipes
You guys struck a nerve wih me. My 68 came equipped with hooker sidemounts when I bought it. They had been on the car for many years and were very rusty. After cleaning them up and a good ceramic coating I moved on to the side pipes. The old Hooker baffles had rusted solid into the pipes so I cut them in half pounded the baffles out grafted in a set of Dyna-Max 4" bullet mufflers. These are 4" in and out and have a ceramic packing in them for sound control. I have not fired the car yet but should this week. For additional sound control I purchased a set of Speed-Way motors spiral "Race" inserts just in case. This should make my BB breath those Hooker Baffles are way too restrictive for my taste. Will let yo know how this works out.
Oh buy the way my total investment is $37 ea for the mufflers and $16 ea for the spiral race baffles.
