Default Now what?

Car ran pretty good all the way down here from IL, Consumed a bit of oil when the AC was on, not sure why but that's for another day another post. The reason I post is now it's idling real, real rough. It's also liking to stall after a stop when the AC is running. But not until I press on the gas when the light turns green. I've got it idling at 1000 out of gear and about 550 in drive (Did I mention, I hate automatics). I've got the timing set advanced 6 degrees. Should I just turn the idle up? Or do I need to reset the timing?

With that said, 79's weren't known for their power but I can't even chirp the tires.

Thoughts?

Jim

Is it shifting ok? Mine was doing something similar the other day, and when my headlights wouldn't open, I found a vacuum hose that had fallen off. Major vacuum leak = bad idle, no headlights, tranny won't shift right.

(I've got a non-computer 81 with a TH350 tranny...)

Good luck,
Dan

portdawg, When I got my best timing at the STL C3 Sharks tune day, my base timing is now 16*. I would put timing at 10* and see how it reacts. If it doesn't run any better, or if it even runs worse, you can always move it back to 6*. danno has a good idea to first look for an obvious vacuum leak. Do you headlights etc all come up nicely? If so, advance your timing some more. It is a no-cost option.

Vacuum leak could be the cause of the stumble, since it used to run fine at 6* timing right?

Thanks Danno- I wonder if that could be the "ticking" hiss Ruby76 and I heard before I left.

I'll play with the timing advance a bit. Headlights com up fine. Better when the engine is running harder, more vacuum? It never has had any guts..though I think it got worse recently...

I'm glad I grabbed my timing light on the way out the door. Talk about dumb luck....
