Shifter Boot Removal
I'm trying to get the shifter boot out, without removing the console. It bends around the tunnel on the driver's side, and according to the '69 assembly manual, there are some clips there. I've tried to work it free, but it won't release. Can this be done with the console in place? Tnx

If it's anything like my '82 the only way is to take the console apart so you can lift it up enough to pull the boot out from the bottom.
also I had to take the new leather off it's frame (metal) and put on the old frame because the new frame was 1/8" too short.

You sound like you're talking about the boot on the floor pan not the one in the console. If so you do NOT need to remove the console. Remove ALL the sheet metal screws (originally hex headed) and pull tangent to the direction of the tunnel and it will indeed come loose. Good Luck.
