I am thinking about installing the Hooker Comp headers on my stock L-48 motor. Was wondering if there might be any ground clearance problems with this header.Any other feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks much
Thanks for the reply.I should be a little clearer here.My car is a stock 75 L-48 Low HP.motor.I'm not looking for the Hooker super comps.Or sidepipes. With my motor,I think the smaller 1-5/8 "primary tubes would be fine.I was more worried about issues like ground clearance,or any other problems someone might know about. Thanks again.
Solid Lt1,
That's what I was trying to find out.I can pick up a pair for pretty cheap.Do you think it is a big enough problem to get all worried about? Thanks again for all the replys.
I am runnung a set of Hooker Comps on my 77. When wee installed them this spring my ride height was a little high, I have since lowerd the car and still no dragging (although last weekend BACKING into my drive I had a minimal drag). Iaaded them at the same time as auto to 5 speed swap out so can't speak to exact performance improve but didn't hurt it any. I have a slightly built 350 in it.
I just installed my 383 with super comps, They have more clearence than my scatter-shield (which I trimmed the bottom off). Before I trimmed the scatter-shield I would somtimes catch elevated manholes. I have to be carefull but not really a big problem.
I know how you feel about your L-48. I went through the same thing with mine and headers. My last C3 bottom on occation and I did not want to do that with this one, she is more of a daily driver. Also planning on lowering her very soon.
I went with Sanderson headers - ceramic coated shorty's.
Also, I put mine on the dyno and got 220 hp and 290 ft lbs with full MSD, Edel Intake, Holly Pro 650 and the headers. Stock everything else. Amazing what you can do when they are dyno tuned properly.

Did your shroties bolt right up, or were there some mods involved? Would really really like to know.
Chris,
Yes, they bolted right up to the motor. I have removed the AC or I am sure there would have been a mod there. They do not bolt up to the stock exhaust, you will have to go to a shop to have it completed if you bolt them in.
I just drove her down open header right through town.
Also, they are to tight to the block to retain the stock ignition wire routing. Let me know if you want a pic, I will be happy to snap one for you.

Same here. The scattershield was the lowest point.
