Default Compression Stroke ???

Just like to know, I'm on #6 fire order (350), so I can spin both pushrods, but I can also spin both pushrods on #3 & #5, that doesn't seem right to me...I adjusted the valves a month ago when I did the valve seals. I just pulled the intake because of oil consumption problem. Is that OK, or am I going to have to adjust valves again???

From: Las Vegas - Just stop perpetuating myths please.
Default Hydralic lifter preload is tricky.

Maybe this will help. A 4 stroke engine has to move any cyl to TDC twice for each cycle our V8 design has 2 pistons at TDC at the same time (for balance my guess). Since the firing order is 18436572 means the crank has to turn 360* twice to complete the firing order. U can see this easier if u draw a circle and put a piston # in the correct order every 90* at TDC - starting at #1 = 0* of course. Yes u have 2 pistons at TDC every 90* but only 1 has both vlvs closed on compression stroke and the other with have the vlvs rocking open in overlap on exh stroke. But remember the cam only turns once through 360* for every 2 rotations of the crank, so u can draw a circle again but for the cam and place a cyl # every 45* in the correct firing order. And the same with the dist cap and u now see the rotor point at 1 cly at a time while 180* accross the cap the cyl will be at TDC too but on the exh stroke.
Yes it looks like #1 @ TDC with both vlvs closed (compression) while #6 cyl @ TDC too but with vlvs rocking in overlap (exh stroke). Remember the cam and dist only turn 360* once thorugh the firing order.
Then 90 crank * later #8 compresssion and #5 exh.
Next 90* later (now 180*): #4 comp & #7 exh
Next 90* (now 270*): #3 comp & #2 exh
Next 90* (back to 0* or 360* on crank): but now #6 comp & #1 exh
Another 90*: #5 comp and #8 exh
Another 90* (180* 2nd time): #7 comp & #4 exh
Finaly last 90* (270* 2nd time): #3 comp & #4 exh

Now a lot of mechs like to feel the air from the sparkplug hole with thier finger to verify comp stroke and not exh. Be sure to adj the lifters when on comp stroke/vlvs closed (lifters on base circle of cam).

And those hyd lifters are tricky in that as u set the preload they will bleed down and u can sometimes roll that p-rod again - even when vlvs should be rocking and p-rods under press/stress. So once i feel the vertical play of p-rod is zero (don't care if p-rod moves sidways or not) i turn rocker nut 1/2 tight and lock - don't try to look back now, better to just start over if unsure.
Well this is the best i can explain and hope it helps. cardo0

Thanks for your answer, I know that 1 valve should closed on another cyl., but I have both valves closed on 2 other cyl. That doesn't seem right...
