I have just replaced the entire A/C system and now the fuses keep blowing. When I turn the A/C on I get wonderful cold air for about 1 minute then the fuse blows and the blower stops. The problem persists with two different blower moters and new one from a 92 vett and the one that was on the car when I bought it. The fuse is 25 amp and the ground connector at the blower motor is good. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would start by cleaning all of the connections at the fuse holder, horn relay, and at the relay on the heater box. Thourghly inspect the wire with the fuse holder to make sure it is in perfect shape, no broken strands etc. After that, it would be just guess work.
Where is the horn relay and the fuse connection? Is there another fuse besides the one under the dash marked A/C ? And also do you know where the blower and conpressor are grounded?
Don't know what year you have but on earlier C3's, horn realy is on the driver side fender by the vacuum tank. There is a separate wire from the horn relay with fuse holder which runs over to the relay on the heater box. This is for high speed operation only.
I can't remember where the horn relay was on my 79 but probably in the same location. I don't believe they used the seperate wire on later C3's.
On earlier C3's, the compressor was grounded at the block by a seperate green wire off the back of the compressor. I am not sure where the blower motor was grounded.
Is the switch getting hot. Mine used to get so hot it would melt the solder inside the switch, all because of resistance from dirty contacts.
